BECOME A PEER SUPPORT VOLUNTEER
Our Peer Support Volunteers are the backbone of Communities for Recovery. All 125 Peer Support Volunteers provide their personal recovery experience and compassion to people in our community who seek Recovery from substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. The gift of their service and time is the GREATEST offering a volunteer can provide another person who seeks Recovery. Our motto is simple; we give the message of recovery to others seeking recovery, and in so doing, we keep our own sobriety – "Give to Keep."
Communities for Recovery offers up to 60 different volunteer opportunities through our Recovery Support Center AND collaborating Treatment, Housing and Drug Court partners in the greater Austin Metropolitan Area. The Peer Support Volunteer can guide and facilitate 12 Step "Back to Basics" programming, 12 Step "Dual Disorders Recovery Achievers" programming, "Cross-Talk", "Family Cross-Talk" and assist with the Career Closet, Recovery Cafe and Computer Lab/Training Room at the CforR Peer Recovery Support Center in Central Austin. All of the CforR Recovery Programs and Services are focused on the new person just entering the Recovery process. The Peer Support Volunteer has an opportunity to be of service to others in our community who seek Recovery – and by doing so, they show that Recovery is Possible and People DO get better. There are no costs associated with becoming a Peer Support Volunteer. Indeed, Communities for Recovery, offers a mileage reimbursement to all persons who sign up to become a CforR Peer Support Volunteer.
