What is a Peer Support Volunteer?
A person in recovery who has completed the CforR volunteer application, completed the CforR Volunteer Intake process with CforR’s Volunteer Program Coordinator, Heather Kess, and has signed up for and completed the orientation and required training. Once the requirements are complete, the Peer Support Volunteer receives a picture badge and is qualified to:
- Escort patients to scheduled meetings (objective is to make personal connections)
- Connect patients to the recovery program(s) that best suit their personal pathway to recovery which may include: 12 Step mutual support recovery programs, faith-based recovery programs, and/or secular recovery programs,
- Provides leadership and mentoring to new Peer Support Volunteers, facilitates CforR programs and leads CforR programs.
- Visits CforR collaborating clinical treatment hospitals and programs, drug treatment courts and permanent housing agencies providing CforR programming: Back to Basics, Dual Disorders Recovery Achievers, Cross-Talk, Family Cross-Talk and Peer Recovery Coaching
- Assist in gathering patient information for follow-up purposes
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with CforR staff, and CforR collaborating agencies’ staff and patients
