FAMILY

We, at Communities for Recovery, believe that family, friends and colleagues are vitally important to the recovering person’s recovery program.

Our program helps people with chemical addiction and dual disorders make lifestyle changes that are permanent, life-long commitments to their recovery.

Much like supporting a spouse or loved one in their recovery from a heart attack, obesity, or any other disease, we encourage that same support for ones working on a program of recovery from chemical addiction and dual disorders.

Being involved in your loved ones disease and recovery process helps them stay in recovery, become more responsible to the family and friends, and provides a base of safety and support.

We Define Support As:

  • Open communication between you AND the loved one in recovery,
  • Consideration of attending Al-Anon or Al-Ateen meetings to begin to understand the roles family and friends have played in the loved one’s life.
  • Taking care of yourself, while encouraging your loved one in their own program of recovery.
  • Attempting to let go of resentments toward the recovering person, and replacing those feelings with self-resolve, understanding and detachment from the co-dependent processes that are typical aspects within the family dynamic.
  • Support groups like Al-Anon or Al-ATeen can provide the strength and encouragement you need in order to support your loved one.
  • We realize it is not an easy road to travel; however, it is a road worth traveling.
