FAMILY
We, at Communities for Recovery, believe that family, friends and colleagues are vitally important to the alcoholics or addicts recovery program.
Our program helps the addicted person make lifestyle changes that are permanent, life-long commitments to their recovery.
Much like supporting a spouse or loved one in their recovery from a heart attack, obesity, or any other disease, we encourage that same support for ones working on a program of recovery from addiction.
Being involved in your loved ones disease and recovery process helps them stay in recovery, become more responsible to the family and friends, and provides a base of safety and support.
We Define Support As:
- Open communication between you AND the alcoholic/addict in recovery,
- Consideration of attending Al-Anon or Al-Ateen meetings to begin to understand the roles family and friends have played in the alcoholics / addicts life.
- Taking care of yourself, while encouraging the alcoholic / addict in their own program of recovery.
- Attempting to let go of resentments toward the alcoholic / addict, and replacing those feelings with self-resolve, understanding and detachment from the co-dependent processes that are typical aspects of an active alcoholic family life.
- Support groups like Al-Anon or Al-ATeen can provide you with the strength and encouragement you need in order to support your loved one.
- We realize it is not an easy road to travel; however, it is a road worth traveling.
