Back To Basics – Our Flagship Program
What is Back to Basics?
Back to Basics is a 12 Step, behavioral education program offered in four weekly one and one-half hour sessions. We encourage a new participant to commit to attending the program for three consecutive months. During this three month period the new participant will attend, observe and learn how to be a Sharing Partner. In the second month the Sharing Partner continues to observe, help new participants and learns how to be a Temporary Sponsor. In the third month he or she attends the program as a Temporary Sponsor (helping a Sharing Partner). Completing Back to Basics three times consecutively strengthens the power of recovery and enables the person living with chemical addiction to "Give to Keep"™ – We give the message of recovery to others in an effort to keep our recovery strong.
Where is Back to Basics offered?
Our Peer Support Volunteers offer our Back to Basics program to the clients of Austin Recovery, Austin State Hospital and Texas Star Recovery.
Does it work?
Today we see increased rates of sobriety and lower rates of recidivism for those that complete the entire process and become Communities for Recovery Peer Support Volunteers. CforR has grown from 6 Peer Support Volunteers (in 2003) to over 149 active Peer Support Volunteers as of 5-6-2011. Since 2008, we have seen 92% of our Peer Support Volunteers continue their long-term recovery process — only 8% have resumed their substance use — and of those who resumed, three returned and are again active as Peer Support Volunteers.
