Cross Talk
What is Cross-Talk?
The Cross-Talk meeting format is the type of small, informal and polite meeting that one might have at a social gathering of friends in one’s home. With smaller meetings, wherein the participants agree to having only one conversation at a time, the cross-talk format is ideal for establishing a relaxed and intimate atmosphere for the participants to open up to each other. We have found that the healing power of these meetings is substantial.
Where and when do these gatherings take place?
Currently we facilitate Cross Talk meetings at Austin Recovery, Family Drug Treatment Court, and Texas Star Recovery. These meetings are open to Active Peer Support Volunteers and patients/clients only.
What happens at a Cross-Talk gathering?
Many connections have been made at these meetings. We have at least two and up to four Volunteers at these meetings. After introductions all around and some preliminary questions and answers by both our Volunteers and patients, the Volunteers share some of their stories. Often a considerable depth of detail is offered which sets the tone for open and honest communication. The patients are asked to share also. The healing begins with the sharing of these stories.
